Prabowo Welcomes Macron at the Palace: Colorful Historic Meeting

Indonesia and France have a long history of diplomatic relations, dating back to 1947. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron was warmly welcomed in Jakarta with a grand state reception at Merdeka Palace. The event was marked by the presence of approximately 3,000 students, from elementary to high school levels, who gathered in neat attire waving flags of both Indonesia and France. President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron arrived at the palace amidst tight security, escorted by a motorcade from the National Monument (Monas), creating a ceremonial atmosphere.

Upon their arrival, President Macron was greeted by President Prabowo Subianto in an official welcome ceremony. The two leaders walked together to the ceremonial grounds, where the national anthems of both countries were played, accompanied by a 21-gun salute as a formal tribute. The event was attended by ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, as well as Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. The ceremonial inspection of the honor guard took place under the clear blue sky of Jakarta, with Macron acknowledging the enthusiastic students waving flags in the palace courtyard.

President Macron’s visit also included a trip to the Military Academy in Magelang and a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, highlighting the shared cultural and educational values between Indonesia and France. Following the welcome ceremony, the two heads of state engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to discuss various strategic partnerships, signifying a deepening of ties between the two nations.
