EU Announces Easier Visa Access for Indonesians After Prabowo’s Brussels Trip

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has introduced a new visa policy that will simplify entry into the European Union for Indonesian citizens. Under this new policy, Indonesians making their second visit to the EU will be eligible for a multi-entry Schengen visa. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Berlaymont Building in Brussels. Von der Leyen highlighted that this decision aims to strengthen long-term ties between the people of Indonesia and the EU, particularly in areas such as education, investment, and social exchange. This visa policy is part of the people-to-people connections pillar in the EU-Indonesia strategic partnership, fostering closer relationships between the two regions. President Prabowo also welcomed the deepening ties between the EU and Indonesia, emphasizing the importance of trust and shared values in building strong partnerships. He expressed his desire for a stronger Europe and closer collaboration in various aspects beyond trade and economics. With the implementation of this new visa policy and the prospect of finalizing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), Indonesia and the European Union are entering a new phase of bilateral relations characterized by enhanced cooperation and mutual benefits for their citizens.
