Prabowo’s Plan to Tackle Rice Distribution Cheating Costing Rp100 Trillion

President Prabowo Subianto strongly denounces corrupt practices in the rice trade in Indonesia, pledging to take strict actions against companies involved in repackaging and inflating the prices of subsidized rice. During the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Prabowo highlighted that these deceptive practices are causing the country to lose up to Rp100 trillion annually. He criticized the fact that despite numerous subsidies given throughout the rice production process, certain companies take advantage by labeling regular rice as “premium” and selling it at much higher prices. This unjust behavior has been identified in 212 rice milling companies, prompting Prabowo to demand the return of illicit profits and refer to the actions as criminal in nature. He stressed that such activities not only harm the people but also violate the Constitution, emphasizing the significant impact that the lost funds could have had on public services. In response, President Prabowo has instructed the National Police Chief and the Attorney General to launch immediate investigations and ensure strict enforcement of the law. He emphasized that his actions are guided by the constitutional duty to protect vital sectors, including rice distribution, and are not driven by personal motives. This crackdown on dishonest rice trade practices aims to uphold fairness, transparency, and accountability in the industry, in line with the constitutional mandate and the welfare of the Indonesian people.
